“Ayurveda -2009”
Indigenous Healthcare Exhibition & Symposium
The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in association with the Ministries of Indigenous Medicine, Export Development & International Trade, Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion, Industrial Development and Tourism and the Department of Ayurveda, has taken the leadership to gear up an international event "Ayurveda 2009" for the second time, the foremost International Exhibition and Symposium on indigenous health care in Sri Lanka and will be supported by other Ministries, Universities ,Govt and Private Sector ayurvedic organizations. The event has already been officially launched by hoisting the flag with a pride of Sri Lankan healthcare tradition. The exhibition & Symposium will be opened from 23rd May to 25th May 2009 at BMICH.
Ayurveda 2009 is especially geared for the following – foreign investors, exhibitors to showcase their products and services, manufacturers of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani & Homeopathy products, manufacturers of medical equipment, hospitals, exporters & importers of ayurvedic products, professionals, herbal cosmetics , to promote nature friendly health food, herbal drinks and and provide a common platform for buyers and sellers to meet each other.
This has given us a valuable opportunity to create a meaningful dialogue and interactive link between government and private sector stakeholders with the intension of advancement of Ayurveda. This is the first international event taking place just after overcoming the uncertainty in the North and East. Therefore this should be treated as a nationally important economic intervention in the country. It will attract many foreign companies and visitors who will have an opportunity to see for themselves that Sri Lanka is one of the safest countries in the world not only for traveling but also for investing. The symposium will be organized on broader theme and eminent scholars from the countries like India, UK, Japan, Germany have been invited to join with Sri Lankan experts. Most recent advancements and scientific findings in Ayurveda will be discussed and presented at the symposium. This also will be a golden opportunity for the knowledge-seeking Ayurvedic practitioners and other professionals to share their experiences
The fact is that Ayurveda is a future system of medicine. Future of healthcare is Ayurveda. The nature friendly medical systems like Ayurveda is getting more and more popular in the world today. “Ayurveda 2009” is organized with that futuristic vision. Today world is getting out from chemical myth to natural herbs. With all negative outcomes of recession, western society is turning towards traditional medicine. Environmental pollution has pushed the developed countries to step on our earth for nature's blessings. Ayurveda 2009 is the ideal rehearsal for that. It is an exclusive showcase for our Ayurvedic industry. It is also an innovative approach to international market of our products. In such event, we all are accountable to uplift the image of Ayurveda at international level with a Sri Lankan identity. Therefore this must be considered not merely as a trade fair or an exhibition. It is a matter of Sri Lankan tradition. We can name it as a national mission of indigenous healthcare.
Even if Ayurveda has been globalized, most of us are not aware that the real outcome and benefits of international promotions have not returned to the Sri Lankan economy, industry or to the real owners of Ayurveda. There is no other field like Ayurveda which can contribute to an evergreen tourist industry in Sri Lanka without waxing and waning. There is no off-season in Ayurvedic tourism. It is not a beachside tourism or coastal area oriented tourist industry. It is a new dimension of heath tourism or wellness tourism. Only very few hotels and tourist agencies have harnessed the substantial benefits of this valuable sector. Ayurveda products and herbal industry can bring a large amount of foreign exchange into our country. Nevertheless Ayurveda is an economically sound medical system which can contribute to a cost-effective health care system to the public.
It is necessary to streamline Ayurveda with a national effort of strengthen local economy in accordance with the current government policies. Fast growing global market for herbal and natural products is being aggressively penetrated by Asian countries like India, Malaysia, Thailand while Sri Lanka is competing for entering the export market with quality genuine products. Ayurveda 2009 will create an excellent opportunity for developing market linkages with international entrepreneurship and sharing benefits in reciprocal manner.
