Basic ayurveda knowledge

Postby angelina » Tue Mar 31, 2009 11:32 am

I would like to know if someone can advise any education centres to learn the basics of ayurveda. I am not interested in following a full medicine course, I know it is at least 6 years of university, but just a basic course to get general knowledge. Can you help?

Dear Angelina,
Where are you located? or where do you want to follow your course? If you want it in Europe, you will not have a lot of choice, otherwise in India you should have a much larger offer.
Please tell me so I can look for some info
Best wishes

In the Uk, Ayurveda is a medical system of health that must be practiced by properly qualified (it involves 6 years full time qualification) corresponding here to a MSc level. The qualification to become a practitioner in India is a B.A.M.S. or a MSc from the only university course available in the UK at Middlesex University and at least membership of the A.P.A., Ayurvedic Practitioners Association

Here is an excellent tele-seminar and/or online course coming up for basic Ayurveda. Perfect for those who are not necessarily interested in practicing professionally. Many who do practice professionally may be interested as well:

Hello,

I'm also looking for an introductory course in Ayurveda. So far I've found two distance learning courses that seem to be good and at a similar cost: one, "Ayurvedic Healing Course" from the American Institute of Vedic Studies http://www.vedanet.com/index.php?option ... mitstart=2

and the second one from the National Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine http://niam.com/corp-web/CorresCourse.htm

my question is, which one would you recommend? What are their differences if any? For now, I just want a short distance learning course to understand the basics.

If you could provide me with any information that would be great.

Thanks

Ayurveda is a comprehensive health system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago, well It recognizes that each person is unique in their constitutional makeup and in any imbalance that may be present, I think that we all must have the basic knowledge of ayurveda, as Ayurveda addresses the causes of disharmony in each individual and supports healing on all levels.
