I do Yoga on a regular basis but my teacher only practice the stretching part. What are the benefits of the breathing and meditation practice of yoga?

I believe this is the most common occidental approach to practicing yoga. But yoga is also pranayama and meditation and you should be able to find a good teacher for learning this 2 other aspects.
according to ayurveda, yoga is a preventive way to avoid illness.

Yoga is the practice of combining breath with movement. When you place that much emphasis on your breath, meditation naturally occurs. If you are simply moving through postures without connecting your breath, I'd say that you are missing out on a lot of yoga's benefits.

Meditation is a way to get quiet, calm, and focused. It trains your mind to slow down, relax, and stay positive. Meditating for just a few minutes a day can help you feel centered, balanced, and more in control — even during the times when you're not actually meditating.
hope this would defiantly help u the most..
thanks....

One basic assumption of the Yoga Sutras is that the body and the mind are part of one continuum of existence, the mind being more subtle than the body. This is the foundation of the yogic view of health. The interaction of body and mind is the central concern of the entire science.
