How many doshas??

Postby barbara » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:24 am

Hi,
Ok I know there are 3 doshas, but I also read somewhere that you can be a combination of many doshas. Does it mean you can be the 3 doshas at the same time? Or any combination of 2 doshas??

Dear Barbara,

Bodies are classified by types, according to which doshas are dominant in the person. Prakruti is your genetic constitution,i.e. the balance of your doshas at birth. Vikruti is the balance of the doshas in your body, right now. If the vikruti=prakruti, there is balance. Balance is required for the best health.
Most people are dual dosha, in other words they have a dominant dosha, and a secondary dosha. However, everyone has all 3 doshas in your body.

The general body types are:

pitta-vata and vata-pitta, pitta-kapha and kapha-pitta, vata-kapha and kapha-vata,

"pure" vata, pitta, kapha where in their constitution vata=pitta=kapha (very rare, and these people are usually very healthy)

I hope it has helped you to understand the body and mind types according to the Ayurveda.

So the Vata-Pita is not the same as Pita-Vata?

I don't know so much about doshas.. i have just basic knowledge about three doshas.. and this
thread has so much to know more about Ayurveda and ayurvedic treatment. 8-)
Ayurvedic treatment is the holy science about ayurvedic medications. It is the safest method of treatment between other treatment methods.

Three Doshas, literally meaning 'fault'. They are :
Vata.
Pitta.
Kapha.

These are a combination of five elements of nature Earth, Water, Fire, Esther and Air. The three doshas are energies, which regulate the life of all living being. The doshas determine and affect the biological, physiological and physio-pathological functions of the body, mind and consciousness. The composition of doshas varies from one individual to another.

An excess deficiency of Vata, Pitta or Kapha causes an imbalance and is believed to be the root cause of ailments, physical or mental in nature. This in turn can influence your physical wellbeing, appearance, personality and character. Using botanical preparations, natural herbal supplements and their oils, adopting time-honored traditional therapies, a perfect physical and mental harmony and balance are derived to ensure a healthy life.

I just 'typed' a couple of friends and they both came out the same with all three types being within 2 of each other. Does this mean they are both very healthy (which is doubtful) or that I have gone wrong with the questionnaire somewher? (more likely). Thanks
